IMMIGRANT PRISONS

  • 100% of the prisons used to imprison immigrants in the USA are for-profit, private prisons.

  • In the first three months of Trump's presidency, over 100,000 immigrants were locked up in 180 different private facilities.

  • Since 2003, about 200 detained immigrants have died in private prisons.

PRIVATE JUVENILE PRISONS

  • Private prisons hold juveniles guilty of only "technical violations" (which might involve not showing up in court for a traffic violation) for 87% longer than public prisons.

  • Private prisons hold juveniles in prison for 80% longer for "status offenses" (an action that would not be a crime if the act were committed by an adult, such as skipping school or drinking a beer).
